Tuesday 12 March: This Red Nose Day, Friday 15 March, Ardfern School in West Dunbartonshire will finally reach the finish line on their month-long ‘virtual’ journey of walking, running, cycling and swimming the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
For the past month, Ardfern School pupils and staff have been taking part in a virtual challenge from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise life changing money for Red Nose Day. The whole school has come together and joined forces to take on the mammoth 1744.2km trek whether that be through walking, running, cycling or swimming, they have all put in a huge effort to clock up the kilometres and take on such an enormous challenge.
Back in the classroom, the fundraiser has become a huge part of the school’s curriculum and has been incorporated into all lessons in some way. In Art classes, the students have created a map to document the expedition, in English the students are reading one man’s memoir of his own journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats, in Maths they’re measuring the challenge’s distance, and in History they’re learning about all the places that they are ‘virtually’ passing through.
Janis Logue, 42, Deputy Head at Ardfern School, who has helped organise this fundraiser, said: “Every single staff member and every single pupil is involved, this really is a whole school event and we’re very excited about it. Red Nose Day is pretty much taking over the school for a month!
“I’ve always loved Red Nose Day, I remember from my own school days what fun it can be and I think it gives kids such a feeling of pride to feel part of Red Nose Day as a whole."
Samir Patel, CEO at Comic Relief comments: “Ardfern have nearly completed their momentous journey across the UK and it’s amazing to see the whole school getting involved in this inspiring fundraiser. The money raised will help people going through the toughest times in their lives, here in the UK and around the world. I’d like to say the biggest thank you to everyone involved and wish you the best of luck for the final leg!"
Ardfern’s challenge of journeying across the UK began on Thursday 15 February and will end on Red Nose Day, Friday 15 March.
Money raised for Red Nose Day could help to put food on plates and roofs over heads, keep little ones safe and help support families affected by conflict and climate change.

NOTES TO EDITORS
About Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day is back on Friday 15 March 2024!
It’s that time of year when incredible cake-bakers, joke-makers, telly-watchers, t shirt-wearers, Red Nose-buyers and laugh-til-you-cryers, do something to fight poverty through humour and fun, for communities here in the UK and around the world.
We know that when people come together, great things can happen. So, this March, Comic Relief is uniting the nation to Do Something Funny for Money. The money raised could help put food on plates and roofs over heads, keep little ones safe and help support families affected by conflict and climate change. Having a laugh can make a serious difference.
There are lots of ways to take part in Red Nose Day. To find out more, visit www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday(opens in new window) or follow @comicrelief on social media.
Red Nose Day is an initiative of Comic Relief.
