The challenge

This October, Billy will attempt the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship. This brutal 17 hour, 140.6-mile race will push his body, mind, and spirit to their absolute limit.

Battling unfamiliar waters, soaring temperatures, and barren lava fields, Billy will take on the ultimate test of strength and resilience. Competing against world-class athletes and aiming to break the IRONMAN World Championship Record for a double leg amputee, Billy will have to:

  • swim 2.4 miles in the unfamiliar waters of the Pacific

  • cycle 112 miles through exposed terrains and strong crosswinds

  • run 26.2 miles across barren lava fields in intense humidity

This will be the culmination of 12 months of intense preparation across all three disciplines - it is the pinnacle challenge of athletic prowess and emotional endurance.

Billy's training schedule has been ominous and foreboding, requiring total discipline and life-style changes for the past year. Your support will give Billy the strength he needs. Knowing he has you behind him will help Billy to go the extra mile. The extra 140.6 miles, to be precise.

Your contributions will not only fuel Billy’s progress but also provide vital support to projects that help people across the UK and the world facing their own tough challenges. Supporting Billy means being part of a team that can bring about real change.

Billy's challenge is dedicated to supporting those who, like him; have faced adversity but without the strong family and community support he was fortunate to have.

Your support will power Billy’s extra-ordinary journey and vital Comic Relief funded projects providing practical support to those facing their toughest challenges, here in the UK and across the world. From giving children and young people the best start in life, to providing a safe place when someone needs it most, to helping families meet their basic needs. This effort significantly supported numerous Comic Relief projects, – showcasing the impact of his dedication, perseverance and refusal to let adversity define him.

Now, he is taking on his toughest challenge yet—the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kona — to raise even more vital funds and to have an even greater impact.
