Day two of Mollie King’s Pedal Power for Red Nose Day kicked off today with the radio DJ battling the elements to continue her 500k journey towards Hull
As of this morning the star has raised over £100k for Comic Relief so far, with the nation rallying around her heroic solo cycling challenge
Day two will see Mollie King cycle 100k from Towcester to Burton-upon-Trent, with steep inclines and unsteady terrain to navigate
Throughout this week she will pedal power her way across England, making her way from London to Hull, the hometown of her late father
Despite having never cycled on roads before, Mollie King is taking on the mammoth journey to raise life changing money for Red Nose Day
The money raised could help break the cycle of poverty for people in UK and around the world

Tuesday 12 March: BBC Radio 1’s Mollie King set off on the second day of the biggest endurance challenge of her life this morning. Braving torrential rain, the DJ took to the saddle once more as she embarked on the next 100k of her 500k challenge, Mollie King’s Pedal Power for Red Nose Day on Radio 1.
Throughout the week, Mollie will be making her way to Hull, the hometown of her late father. Today, she departed Towcester at 8am, working her way towards the quaint market town of Burton-upon-Trent where she will disembark and recover for the evening.
The nation and Radio 1 listeners are rallying around Mollie, and as of this morning, the star has raised in excess of £100k for Comic Relief since beginning her challenge yesterday. The remarkable amount raised already has given Mollie a much needed boost as she contends with aching muscles, tough weather conditions and the ever changing terrain during her solo cycling challenge.
Mollie said: “This challenge has been tough, part of my brain is telling me, Mollie we need to get off here and walk and I'm like NO, we are cycling the whole way! I can feel it in my body. My legs are aching and my back’s sore, there’s still such a long way to go. Today has been particularly tough, we’ve had diagonal rain and I'm being sprayed by lorries and vans along the road, I'm soaking from head to toe.
“Yesterday was crazy, the adrenaline from the start line kept me going, but it wasn’t an easy ride. It took me just under 11 hours to get to Towcester, but we estimated it would take eight. When I finished the journey, it was pitch black, but to see people’s faces and see them smiling, was just what I needed”.
Mollie added: “Raising over £100k, so far, is an amazing achievement, I can’t quite believe it. Every donation, and even the tooting horns and waving means so much. It brings it all back to why I am doing this and I am so thankful to everyone who is supporting”.
Today, Mollie will pass through: Towcester, Weedon, Daventry, Barby, Rugby, Newbold-on-Avon, Harborough Parva, Harborough Magna, Pailton, Burbage, Stoke Goulding, Dadlington, Market Bosworth, Barton in the Beans, Odstone, Newton Burgoland, Measham, Oakthorp, Donisthorp, Moira, Woodville, and finish in Burton-upon-Trent.
On her journey, Mollie will pass through villages, towns and cities where Comic Relief funded projects are providing essential support to people who need it most. Mollie King’s Pedal Power for Red Nose Day on Radio 1 will be broadcast live on Radio 1, BBC Morning Live and BBC Sounds across the week, with video highlights on Radio 1’s social channels.
