Tuesday 12 March 2024: Bexley Heath Academy’s Year 7 to 10 students are gearing up for an epic workout challenge in their first Red Nose Day fundraiser. Hundreds of students will skip, squat, star jump, and lunge for an hour each day from Monday 10 to Thursday 14 March, with the aim of raising at least £500 for Comic Relief.

Louise Pressney, lead practitioner and PE teacher at Bexley Heath Academy, is excited about the upcoming event. Louise said: “I remember Red Nose Day from school, and being sporty, I’ve always been interested in watching the challenges. It’s great for kids to see well-known people doing endurance events for Comic Relief; it’s truly inspiring."

The fundraising workouts will take place during lesson time in the school hall, with all students being sponsored to participate. Louise explains: “All pupils will be involved and we’re hoping to get some teachers along too. It will run from Monday to Thursday, building up to Red Nose Day on Friday [15 March], so they will be able to watch the show knowing they’ve contributed. One of our values in school is to be big-hearted, to look out for and support others, and Comic Relief really does embody that message."

Samir Patel, CEO at Comic Relief said: “Bexley Heath Academy is pulling out all the stops to make their first Red Nose Day fundraiser one to remember. Our biggest thanks go out to all the teachers and pupils involved – the money raised will make such a difference and help people going through the toughest times in their lives, here in the UK and around the world. We’re hugely grateful and wish everyone at Bexley Heath the best of luck!"

Money raised for Red Nose Day could help to put food on plates and roofs over heads, keep little ones safe and help support families affected by conflict and climate change.

This year, Comic Relief is celebrating its heroic, change making fundraisers with The Nosey Awards. Featuring five categories, the awards are open to anyone that fundraised for Red Nose Day between 2021-2024. Entries close on 31 March. To enter visit www.comicrelief.com/Noseys.

Red Nose Day returns on 15 March. To find out how you can get involved visit www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday.

NOTES TO EDITORS

About Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day is back on Friday 15 March 2024!

It’s that time of year when incredible cake-bakers, joke-makers, telly-watchers, t shirt-wearers, Red Nose-buyers and laugh-til-you-cryers, do something to fight poverty through humour and fun, for communities here in the UK and around the world.

We know that when people come together, great things can happen. So, this March, Comic Relief is uniting the nation to Do Something Funny for Money. The money raised could help put food on plates and roofs over heads, keep little ones safe and help support families affected by conflict and climate change. Having a laugh can make a serious difference.

There are lots of ways to take part in Red Nose Day. To find out more, visit www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday or follow @comicrelief on social media.

Red Nose Day is an initiative of Comic Relief.
