It’s the news which will have children around the UK jumping for joy, comedian David Walliams has written an exciting new book exclusively for Comic Relief.
“The Queen’s Orang-Utan” is a right royal mash-up of mischief and mayhem, with all royalties being waived to raise funds in time for Red Nose Day on March 13th this year.
The children’s book has been beautifully illustrated by Tony Ross who has worked with David on five of his bestselling novels.
And two of the biggest names in British comedy, Rob Brydon and Miranda Hart, will also feature on an audio version of the book to be released on March 12th, the day before Red Nose Day.
David is an honorary trustee of Comic Relief, for which he has raised millions of pounds to help vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and across Africa.
In 2006 he swam the English Channel and in 2011 completed another swim along the River Thames.
His most recent novel, Awful Auntie, was released last September and was the biggest selling book published in 2014.
“David has been such a brilliant supporter of Comic Relief for such a long time,” Comic Relief CEO Kevin Cahill, said.
“He’s clearly taken the easy way out this time by writing a book rather than swimming the Channel! We are eternally in his debt for his wonderful ongoing support.”
The Queen’s Orang-Utan will be published by HarperCollins UK on 26th February and will be priced at £4.99. At least £3 from each copy sold will go to Comic Relief.
“David Walliams is a genius storyteller – adored by millions of children worldwide,” HarperCollins Children’s Books Executive Publisher Ann-Janine Murtagh said.
“He has written this wonderfully irreverent and hilarious tale especially for Comic Relief – and what a wonderful gift it is! His inimitable storytelling is on top form and will delight young and old,” she added.
