Today we are welcoming over a hundred new grantees to Comic Relief HQ. They are all being funded under our ‘Core Strength’ initiative and have come from all over the UK to share ideas, talk about the work they do and how we can work together.
People living in deprived areas, or who face a range of social issues, often get support from smaller organisations based within their communities. Sometimes it's these locally-based groups that truly understand the needs of the people they serve and make a huge difference to their lives.
The Core Strength initiative provides funding for essential core running costs. This funding can be vital in keeping these small grass roots organisations going.
Attendees are from a wide range of projects and locations; from delivering community-based learning and training in the Outer Hebrides to a Welsh centre which provides welcoming and help with integration to refugees.
Gilly Green, Head of UK Grants said, "At the heart of this initiative is the ability of organisations to determine how best to use this funding to strengthen their organisations. It’s clear that one size doesn’t fit all - the activities we are supporting vary from paying for the heat and light, to helping organisations develop a forward facing funding plan.
"We’re proud to be supporting these successful applicants, embedded in their communities who have demonstrated their ambition, determination and expert knowledge. We look forward to learning and sharing with others as much as we can about this approach."
