The Made in Chelsea star has teamed up with The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), an official partner of Sport Relief 2016, to carry out the tough challenge, which will see him rally with celebrities, tennis stars and local school children. He will also take part in activities such as Cardio Tennis and a midnight Touch Tennis tournament.
“When the LTA approached me to take on the 24 hour tennis match, the answer was an immediate yes” Jamie says. “Working with Sport Relief in 2014 was an incredibly rewarding experience and to be given the chance to raise money for such a great cause again is really exciting.
“I love tennis and have played it my whole life, but this will be one of the biggest challenges I have ever undertaken - I need all the support I can to get me through and raise as much money as possible.”
As a first-time Sport Relief partner, the LTA is aiming to raise as much money as possible through its events and initiatives. It will be fundraising through its club network and activities during the Great Britain Davis Cup home tie against Japan from the 4th to 6th March in Birmingham, including £1 of every ticket sold going directly to Sport Relief.
The money raised will help transform people’s lives across the UK and in the world’s poorest communities. As part of the partnership, Sport Relief and the Tennis Foundation are investigating possible funding opportunities for a tennis project that will help disadvantaged people access and play tennis and develop life skills.
“Partnering with Sport Relief is a fantastic opportunity for British Tennis,” Rob Dearing, head of participation at the LTA, said. “We can utilise our sport to raise money not only for this brilliant cause, but to develop projects that will make tennis more accessible to disadvantaged people and communities. Our mission is to get more people playing tennis more often and we hope that this challenge inspires the nation to go out and pick up a racket.”
