Comic Relief has today received £3 million fund from HM Treasury to support its work to protect, inspire and empower with women and girls across the UK.
We were one of many organisations that applied for the funding announced by George Osborne in November 2015 and were one of 21 organisations to have been awarded this funding.
Working with women and girls is a key strategic priority for Comic Relief and this funding will help support the important work we do in this area. We believe that all women and girls should have the opportunity to achieve their potential and pursue their dreams and have been working for over 20 years funding projects that have delivered real change.
“Improving opportunities for women and girls is a major strategic priority for Comic Relief,” Comic Relief Head of UK Grants, Gilly Green said. “We have over 20 years of experience working with organisations who are expert in these issues, funding successful projects that protect, inspire and empower women and girls.
“We are delighted that HM Treasury has chosen to partner with Comic Relief’s UK grant making in this area. The £3 million funding that the Treasury is providing, added to an additional £1 million of Comic Relief funds will enable us to continue and increase the vital work that we fund in this field.
“These funds will allow us to continue our long history of working with partners across the sector and to apply our expert knowledge of grant making in this area to help deliver projects that will make real impact to protect, inspire and empower women and girls across the UK, transforming the lives of women and young girls and helping them to reach their potential.”
In line with its strategic priorities, Comic Relief will use these funds to help those women and girls who are most marginalised or disadvantaged in society and whose access to opportunity is limited.
Comic Relief will work with HM Treasury over the coming months to look at opportunities how some of the organisations that applied but did not receive funding direct from HM Treasury may be considered as part of Comic Relief grant application process.
