At the start of Living Wage Week, Comic Relief has announced that it will be an officially recognised Living Wage employer.
The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public; it is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.
By committing to the Living Wage, all of the charity’s employees will receive a minimum hourly wage significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.31. It is designed to reflect the true cost of living.
Comic Relief's Chief Executive, Kevin Cahill said ‘Comic Relief's vision is a just world, free from poverty, and I'm proud that we have become Living Wage accredited. It's only right that our practice and policies as an employer reflect our values, goals and ambitions as a charity. I'm immensely pleased to now be part of an initiative that strives to achieve this for employees across all sectors.’
Comic Relief joins over 1,000 accredited organisations who have signed up to the Living Wage.
