Last month, we announced our brand new Tech for Good 2016-17 programme, in partnership with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The programme will support charity organisations who are using technology in innovative and inspiring ways. Applications are now officially open and we are inviting applicants to get creative and publish a two minute video on a public site such as YouTube or Vimeo as part of their application.
The 10 chosen projects will receive funding of up to £50,000 over four months to enable them to deliver new ideas and make their services more effective using technology.
A wide range of digital innovations will be considered and our aim is to fund projects that:
Are focused on specific user needs in their design, delivery and development
Make best use of web, mobile or internet based technologies
Can scale effectively and offer economies of scale
Disrupt and challenge existing ways of delivering services
This programme aims to provide the opportunity for charity organisations who already have some sound technological expertise, to take their digital projects forward. The winning projects must address any of our four programme areas(opens in new window) and be based in the UK.
The Tech for Good funding programme is looking for more than just ideas. We want applicants to show that they understand how to manage a successful digital project. We would expect that some development work will have already taken place, and that the four month funding period will enable the project to make a significant digital step forward.
Last year, Comic Relief’s pilot scheme successfully enabled six organisations to build much needed digital services, including the award winning SafteyNets and Wayfindr, who both won Tech4Good awards(opens in new window). The Tech for Good application process opens today, 3rd October 2016 and will close at 3pm on 1st November. A long list of videos will be published online, before applicants will be invited to submit a full application in December.
