Use this form to say YES to Gift Aid being claimed on your donations to Comic Relief.

What is Gift Aid and how does it work?

As a UK taxpayer you will pay tax on your earnings, savings or pensions. If you make a donation to charity, this donation will come from money that you have already paid tax on. As a charity, we can reclaim this tax back from the Government. This means that if you donate £10, and use Gift Aid, it’s actually worth £12.50. Which is great news for us! And because this additional money comes to us straight from the government, not out of your pocket, you would still only be giving us £10 of your own money. Which is great news for you!

For every £1 donated with gift aid, Comic Relief gets an extra 25p from the government, at no extra cost to you!

Please note that the money that Comic Relief claims back from HMRC as part of the Gift Aid scheme will be treated as unrestricted funds and used to support our general work, even if the original donation was made towards a specific appeal.

To say ‘Yes’ to Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

FAQs

We’ve answered some of the most common questions about Gift Aid below. Please reach out to us on giftaid@comicrelief.com(opens in new window) if you have other questions or enquiries and we will do our best to help!

Comic Relief can only claim Gift Aid on your donation at the basic tax rate (20%), even if you are a higher rate taxpayer. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim the difference between the higher rate of tax and the current basic rate of tax of 20% on your Self-Assessment Tax return. For more information please visit the HMRC website.

If you would like a receipt of all eligible donations that you have made in the last financial year, then please contact our Supporter Services Team on giftaid@comicrelief.com.

If you’re a pensioner, you may still be paying tax on a private pension plan or a savings account, or capital gains tax if you sell property or shares. You can still Gift Aid if you have paid enough tax during the tax year to cover the amount that charities will claim on all your donations in that year.
