For the 72 million children around the world who can’t go to school, their chances of escaping the grinding poverty they currently face are bleak, to say the least.
By getting an education, children learn the skills they need to get better jobs as they grow up and have real and lasting opportunities to work their way out of poverty. Which is exactly why Comic Relief believes every child should have the opportunity to go to school and improve their lives.
And that’s also why we’re supporting ‘1GOAL’- a campaign which is taking place ahead of the World Cup in South Africa which FIFA and many other charitable organisations are backing wholeheartedly.
From the world’s most famous footballing stars to celebrities and world leaders alike, they’re all working together to support 1GOAL and demonstrate why it’s so important that every child gets an education.
In 2000, the world’s most powerful leaders made a promise to send every child to school by 2015. And some real progress has been made. Since that time, over 40 million kids have been given the chance to go to school – but there’s still a long way to go.
It’s hoped that this campaign will get world leaders to do whatever it takes to make sure that the promise they made ten years ago doesn’t get broken.
So back the campaign and help to give kids all over the world the education they need to turn their lives around.
