About the Issue
Despite their age, some children and young people have to provide personal or emotional care for an adult with a disability or a mental health problem, as well as caring for younger siblings. Such a burden can take its toll on anyone, especially those too young to cope with such responsibilities. Such pressures can lead to the young carer underachieving at school, suffering ill health, stress and simply missing out on time with their friends.
We have forged a partnership with one of the UK's leading carers organisation, the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. They currently support 13,000 young carers and their reputation and expertise in this area led us to ask them to devleop and manage the new programme on our behalf.
