Calls from afar in Glasgow

More than 130 volunteers from GHA gathered to play their part in one of the UK’s biggest fundraising drives all wearing t-shirts emblazoned with  ‘We’re rising to the challenge’.

And rise to the challenge we did. Some donned red wigs, some had sprayed their hair green, others came in fancy dress. We all wore a smile on our faces.

" I’m having a great time," said Cass Hendry, a housing officer from Keystone. We took calls from the length and breadth of the UK and from as far away as Spain, Switzerland and even Jamaica. But it was far from all hard work and no play. At midnight the whistle blew and it was all over – bar the counting.

The grand total taken in by GHA staff over five hours was £94,519. Another £400 was raised from the staff raffle. Alex McGuire, Acting Director of Housing and Customer Services said. "It’s been a real buzz. And if we do it again I want to be a call handler.""There’s no ifs," said General Manager Mags Lightbody. "WHEN we do it again."
